Each project can have its own email address. Send, forward, CC, or BCC that address, and Ren works on the email and replies in the same thread.
Set a project’s email address
Email is off until you turn it on for a project. There’s nothing to install.
Ren generates the address from the organization and project slugs, like acme.support@agents.renai.build. Slugs contain lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. Ren adds a number if the address isn’t available. You can’t choose or edit the address.
- Open the project’s @Ren tab.
- On the Email card, select Create project mailbox.
The card shows Mailbox enabled. To find the address, ask Ren for it in the project, or run ren email list.
ren email set <project-id>ren email listren email list shows each project’s address. Add --fallback-sender-user-id <user-id> to ren email set to choose a fallback sender.
When to use email
- Forward requests that arrive by email. Send a customer’s question to the support project and let Ren draft the answer.
- Hand off documents. Email invoices, contracts, or reports as attachments and ask Ren to extract or summarize them.
How email threads map to chats
The first email starts a chat in the project, and replies in the email thread continue that chat.
Ren reads only the new part of each email, not the quoted history below it. If an email comes from an automated sender, like a no-reply address or a mailing list, Ren still works on it but doesn’t reply by email.
Forward an email to Ren
Forward the email to the project’s address and add a note on what you want:
Draft a reply that offers a refund and keeps it under 100 words.A forward starts a new chat. Ren replies to you, the person who forwarded it, and your replies to Ren continue the same chat.
CC and BCC
Ren receives emails addressed to it through To, CC, or BCC. If an email addresses two projects, only the first receives it.
Ren replies only to the person who sent the email, not to everyone on it.
Attachments
Ren receives email attachments and reads images, text files, and PDFs directly. It saves other files to the space’s machine and opens them with its tools.
Ren can attach files it creates to its replies.
FAQ
Who can email Ren?
Anyone whose email address matches a Ren user who is a member of the project’s space. If you set a fallback sender, email from anyone else runs as that user. Otherwise, Ren drops it without replying.
Can several people email Ren in the same thread?
Yes. Ren checks each sender separately, and each email continues the same chat. Ren replies to whoever sent the latest email.
What happens when I disable and enable email?
Disabling email releases the project’s address, which stops working. Enabling email generates an address again. Ren adds a number if another project now uses the old address.
What happens when Ren needs permission?
Email chats deny actions that need approval and continue without them. Configure project permissions before sending requests.
